その食べ物はどんな匂いがしますか？


Explanation:
Basically, agree with Muneo. But when I use Japanese, I don't use this word "Kaori" much on foods.
Kaori sounds to be more relating to pleasant smell like fragrance, perfume, flowers, etc. I think that 匂い、and 臭い, they are different, right?
I like curry, and I say カレーのとってもいい匂いがするね。Give me some comments, will you?

agree  LEXICON KK: true. 匂い is used more often with food, 香り on the otherhand is more common with fragrance, etc
