地元の縁日（祭）などでのゲームになぞらえてアート談義をしているのはわかるのですが、私がそのゲームそのものを知らないために、今ひとつニュアンスがつかめません。
通常、何を投げて皿（的）を割るのでしょうか。

ゲーム自体は棚に並んでいるお皿にボールを投げて割る。割った枚数によって景品などがもらえるって感じです。バリエーションとしては、空気銃で撃って風船を割ったり、景品に直接輪を投げる輪投げゲームとか。日本の盆踊りの金魚すくいみたいな感覚でしょうか...。夏場のカーニバルなどでよくこういったゲームが並びます。

Yumico Tanaka: まあ、「物」でも、「ボール」でもいいと思います。たいして内容的には重要じゃないのに、訳者にとっては重要、つらいですね。

KathyT: There's really nothing in the 原文 to suggest it's a ball (my first thought was something like a hammer, most people wouldn't have trouble remembering the word 'ball' (cf. your comment in the Discussion section). I def. think Asker is safer with あれ (or もの).

-> You are right about the original document not containing the word 'ball'. I was trying to explain a typical carnival game, and how it might be played. But you are absolutely right. Probably safer to stick with あれ or something vague like that.
