Mago - pronounced Mah-Go - is the word used for grandchild and this word is used for both grandson and grand-daughter. It is interesting to note that the word 'Mago-Musume' (pronounced Mah-Go-Musu-May) is often used for grand-daughter, but I have never heard anyone say 'Mago-Musuko' for grandson.
