Most houses in Western Australia are built on heavily compacted "sand pads". Generally the pad is 600mm deep at the most shallow point. It extends at least 1,000mm beyond the outside walls of the house or verandahh and need to be contained within a retaining wall or "bund" made of heavy rocks.
