Although it is not altogether impossible to represent certain electronic device such as a magnetic pole-pierce core or a memory core, it is generally used as a euphemism for very hard pictures of extreme obscenity. As far as I know ハードコア is not found in standard Japanese dictionariers, but the meaning is very clear.
