300 AD As part of the reorganisation of the Roman Empire, the province of Raetia was divided in two. What is today Eastern Switzerland, Graubünden, Vorarlberg, the neighbouring portion of Tyrol, the Venosta Valley and parts of Central Switzerland were grouped together to form Raetia Prima, withCuria Raetorum (the present-day Chur ) as its capital. The Bavarian and Swabian Uplands to the north of Lake Constance as well as the northern parts of Tyrol became Raetia Secunda with Augusta Vindelicorum (the present-day Augsburg) as its capital. Christianity started to spread. Reference: http://www.liarumantscha.ch/Chronicle.354.0.html?&L=2 |

curia raetorum キュリア・レイトーラム / キュリア・ライトーラム Explanation: キュリア・レイトーラム キュリア・ライトーラム A try from a Latin amateur... Modern English renders the sound "ae" as "ai" (as in "lie" or curriculum "vitae"), but classcists pronounce it as "ei" (as in "bay"). Pls see the first link for key. As for "um": (http://www.geocities.com/athens/olympus/3296/pronunc.htm): "U" is pronounced as "oo" as in "rude", but the common word endings us and um should be pronounced like "puss" and "room" (with the "oo" sound as in "book"), and the common word ut (how, so that) should be pronounced like "put". -- that is, as in "forum" FYI: http://www.angelfire.com/realm/klossg0/latinpronunciation.ht... Latin spelling and pronunciation: Information From Answers.comAE, OE, AV, EI, EV were pronounced as diphthongs, each of the vowels retaining its pronunciation: AE was /ai/, AV /au/, and so on.
