直訳的ですが、いただいた文脈からはこのようになるでしょう。「歴史」を「時代」に置き換えてもよいかと思います。
要するにハワイが、歴史のなかでどのような場所を占めていたのか、それをそのホテルはよく映し出しているということなのではないかと思いますが…
別の言葉で言えば、そのホテルは、そのようなハワイを代表する典型的高級ホテルだといいいたい、そういう宣伝文句かと思われますが？

あ、言い忘れました。
そのホテルの建築様式やインテリアは、その時代を映し出している、ということのように私は解釈しました。

ご存知のように、合衆国はその歴史のなかで多くの旧スペイン領土やロシア領土などを吸収合併して来ました。それでももとそれ自体が独立の王国だったところはハワイだけです。
その意味でハワイは実に独特の場所です。place in timeというとき、そのような独自性も示唆されていると私は思います。
