The 1559 Injunctions have been widely regarded as the central means by which Elizabeth established press censorship. The purpose of these was to devise a licensing system for the press. It is very important to say that from the 53 items, the licensing provision is only one of those items whose end was the Church settlement. So, within this context, it can be said that the 1559 Injuctions were certainly ecclesiastical in its administration and likely ecclesiastical in its intent.
