Bad source sentence. Atom is not a raw material. Atom is a conceptual matter that cannot be seen.
And grammatically speaking, "see a world as mesmerizing as those who..." does not make sense either. It sounds like our atomic scientists are mesmerized by two things: a world, and a group of hot-looking space scientists.
