English term or phrase: those two dreams
Greetings,

In my “Approach to Latin 2”, “illa duo somnia” is used to refer to the two stories which the narrator is about to tell, i.e. to mean “these two stories”, although “ille” usually means “that, those”.

So, supposing the author wanted to say “those two dreams” (i.e. the ones I've just told), what would he say then, please?

All the best,

Simon

illa duo somnia
Explanation:
You are right, ille generally means "that, those". If you want to mean something closer (in space or in the mind of the speaker) you should use "hic" (haec duo somnia = these two dreams).

Apart from that, in its neutrum form, ille can mean without distinction this and that, but in this case would be nominalized:
Unum illud dico, I only say this
