English to Latin translations [Non-PRO] Other | | English term or phrase: eternal love and devotion for/to William | | I am needing a correct latin translation for this as I am am having something engraved for my husband, please help! I have a Latin book, but am confused, and there is so much on the web that is incorrect. |
| | | amor studiumque perpetuum Gulielmo | Explanation: 'Perpetuum' is neuter because an attributive adjective agrees with the nearest substantive.
Since you're having this engraved for your husband, you may want to use only capital letters. The Romans had no lower case or minsucule letters until the advent of barbarism in the 5th and 6th centuries. Thus:
AMOR STVDIVMQVE PERPETVVM GVLIELMO
You may replace the Vs with Us, although this form of the letter did not come into common use until the early 2nd century. Likewise, you may want to leave out the spaces between the words. Words were not separated until Mediaeval times, and not consistently until modern times. |
