English term or phrase: chaturaji
Greetings,

Re
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaturaji

I am told that chaturaji (chess for four people) is actually चौसर chausar or चौपट chaupaT in Hindi. So could it be that the English word “chaturaji” is of Marathi origin? I know that Marathi is closer than Hindi to the original Sanskrit, and the word chaturaji doesn't seem to be Sanskrit (at least I could not locate it in a Sanskrit dictionary) although it sounds a bit like Sanskrit.

All the best,

Simon
