English to Norwegian translations [PRO]
Science - Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng / MSDS
English term or phrase: Annex 1 name
In a list of MSDS terms in an Excel sheet, a chemical name is followed by this string in parentheses. The whole string is as follows: "Mesitylene; 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (Annex 1 name)". Any idea what this is about?

I couldn't unhide my answer so I am re-writing it.

The closest I can find is the Danish and English database. With respect to Danish direktiv 67/548/EØF / Council Directive 67/548/EEC of 27 June 1967 on the approximation of laws, regulations and administrative provisions relating to the classification, packaging and labelling of dangerous substances:

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:...

a ) stoffets navn skal anfoeres ved en af de betegnelser , der fremgaar af den i bilag I til dette direktiv indeholdte liste ;

compare

http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:...

(a) the name of the substance must be one of the terms listed in Annex I to this Directive;

Annex I is contained in the following link: (click on "search Annex I"). This is the Annex I database containing Annex I names:
http://ecb.jrc.ec.europa.eu/classification-labelling/search-...

The results can be output in Danish or English and any other EU language, but not Norwegian.

In Danish the translation would be bilag I navn

Thanks, you seem to be right that it refers to Annex 1 of 67/548/EEC. According to Statens Forurensningstilsyn in Norway, the thing to do here is to delete the whole string from the original and replace it with the standardised name from the SFT substance list (SFT). Optionally with "(Stofflistenavn)" or similar added. But the reason for these additions in the original is that there are two regulated names, one Annex 1 name and one EU doc name. This is not the case in Norway, to the addition should be unnecessary.
