Jeg har sett dette uttrykket brukt om f.eks antigener i immunologiske tester (ELISA etc). Det betyr jo en substans som virker inn på en reaksjon som er merket, ofte med fluorkrom for at vi skal se/oppdage at en reaksjon faktisk har skjedd.
