Thanks for the suggestions. A complete sentences would be something like - "The flywheel drives pistons through the non-power strokes". In German the term for all of the innsugnings-, kompresjons- and utblåsningstaktene is Leertakt (i.e. tomgangstakt e.l.), if that helps.

One of the terms above is a name e.g. the 7.3L non-power stroke diesel made by Ford.
Another of the meanings is for the back/return stroke of the power stroke. see: http://nn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firetaktsmotor, http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firetaktsmotor and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke_cycle . You could say tilbake takt (baktakt?) or utblåsingstakta
In addition non-power strokes can refer to the Innsugingstakta, Kompresjonstakta and utblåsingstakta which are the non-power strokes of a four stroke engine, because the power stroke is the Arbeidstakta.
You might want to include the full sentance to clarify which term is meant.
