Enhver for seg selv

"Enhver" means literally "each one"
for = for
seg selv = him/herself (doesn't denote gender in Norwegian)

Hver mann for seg selv

This is the idiomatic expression.
"mann" means "man", and hence the expression is gender specific, although "hver mann" in this sense doesn't exclude "women and children". It's a bit like its German counterpart, "jedermann".
