to bridge the wall cavity

Explanation:
I'm not a native in English but "bridge the wall only" means to build in an "(ALU) door bridge" only, nothing else.
There is a cavity for door and you build in so called "door profile/bridge" on which doors are smoothly sliding.

Google also "Profile with interrupted thermal bridge"

Asker: I see what you are saying, but the cavity here does not refer to the door opening, but to the insulating space between the two skins of an outer wall. It's not about thermal bridging either.

bridge the wall only and not any dry-lining, trim or cladding

Explanation:
If your source text is page 2 of http://issuu.com/glazeritewellingborough/docs/glazerite_warm... then your problem is that you provided inadequate context. The word "only" also needed to be included in your header term. I think the English in the above source is perfectly OK.

The door is being installed in a reveal and the illustrations don't actually show what type of wall. However, I don't think this instruction relates to any cavity, as that would be treated as part of the wall. If it meant not to bridge the cavity it would use the word "leaf", not "wall". It means that if there is any feature such as internal dry-lining, decorative trim or cladding, that should not be bridged.

NB. If the wall were a cavity wall then it would be a good idea to bridge the cavity in order to ensure that the door frame helped seal the cavity and extended the insulation between the two leaves of the wall. However, I don't think this has anything whatsoever to do with whether or not the wall in question is a cavity wall. That wouldn't affect this instruction. If your client said to leave this out, it may be that they have realised that it is obvious and need not be stated. A door frame should be installed to fit into permanent elements of the structure and not into something that might be subsequently replaced.

Hi there!

I read your post in the forum, googled a bit and found that "bridge the wall" means "bridge the wall cavity" as shown in this website:

http://www.justdoorsuk.com/downloads/composite-installation-...

Maybe that helps a bit!

Hi Elisabeth - glad you found the link useful! By the way, I googled " Bridge the wall"+ folding sliding door installation.
Google "images" is also a good tool for searching technical parts; start by searching the source term to find out what the part looks like and then go from there!

Asker: I seriously get lost on ProZ. I posted the following in the Discussions, although I meant it mostly for you: I thought I had found every document on the Internet after so many hours, but I hadn't found this one. This list about door alignment is exactly the same as in my document, except for the "wall only" vs. "wall cavity". I had considered that it meant wall cavity, but the "only" made me think it meant to specifically not bridge the cavity. It's the most helpful link I have seen, because now I know how to frame my question to the client.

disagree  B D Finch: Your link doesn't work. However, it does not mean "bridge the wall cavity" here, because if it did mean that, the word "only" would make no sense. In the case of a cavity wall, failing to bridge the cavity would cause insulation problems.
