Niektóre detektory FPA pracują tylko w temperaturach kriogenicznych.
Specjalny element chłodzący schładza końcówkę (cold tip), na której
zamontowany jest detektor do temp. poniżej 150 C. Tak niskie temperatury można otrzymać na bardzo ograniczonej powierzchni - stąd pewnie nazwa "tip".
"The cold tip is configured to remove heat from the circumference of the last 3 mm of the cold tip. This allows direct integration of an FPA onto the coldhead."
