Tolerancja roślin na stres abiotyczny.
Wiele obszarów Ziemi zostało wyłączonych z uprawy ze względu na wysokie zasolenie lub silnie zasadowy odczyn gleby. Gen tolerancji na wysokie zasolenie pochodzący z mangrowców (Avicennia marina) umożliwia stworzenie roślin transgenicznych znoszących duże zasolenie, co daje nadzieję na wykorzystanie części nieużytków. Wyprodukowano także transgeniczne rośliny z nadprodukcją kwasu cytrynowego w korzeniach, które wykazują większą tolerancję na glin w glebie, a także mrozoodporną transgeniczną truskawkę.
