Through the odd and at first glance, brutal, elimination of the heads, Aptekar endows the bodies (as opposed to the minds) of his dancers with the semblance of human will, as if to say that mind and body are one. The figures could not possibly perform their acrobatics without an acute consciousness, one that is here vested in the place of feeling. |
