The driven yoke operating at a different angle travels in the form of an ellipse from the viewpoint of the input yoke. Because the driven yoke has to make one revolution in the same amount of time as the input yoke, yet has a longer or shorter distance to travel depending on the section of revolution, the output yoke has to speed up and then slow down twice in one revolution. In order for proper ***cancellation*** to take place, the two operating angles should be equal within 1 degree.
The formula for U-joint cancellation is:
transmission output operating angle + axle input operating angle = amount of U-joint cancellation
