Wydaje mi się, iż jest to skrót od słowa "axle", czyli oś, a w tym konkretnym przypadku oznaczałoby to ciężar przypadający na jedną oś pojazdu.

disagree  Polangmar: Nie chodzi tu o ciężar przypadający na jedną oś pojazdu (takich danych nie podaje się w tego typu dokumentach), ale o liczbę osi. Poza tym ponieważ typowy pojazd ma zawsze co najmniej dwie osie, nie można tłumaczyć "oś".
