1. Candidates for the award of the title of University Fellow will be recommended to Council by the Honorary Awards Committee in recognition of substantial continuous support for the University, evidenced by:
i support of the interests and welfare of the University of South Australia or of a particular part of the University's activities
ii promotion of the academic purposes of the University or of facilitating those purposes in any particular activity of the University
iii expanding educational opportunities among groups within the community that the University considers have suffered disadvantages in education
iv fostering links between the University and other institutions within and outside Australia
v outstanding service to the University of South Australia.

Explanation:
A Fellow is an elected position at a collegiate university (eg. Oxford or Cambridge), chosen by the other Fellows, not necessarily a teaching post. The person has to be a graduate (often of that college, but not necessarily). It entitles the person to participate in the decision-making process of the college and to dine at the Fellows' table - an important privilege.
