Przy transakcjach F.O.B. eksporter odpowiada za zapakowanie towaru, dostarczenie go do portu załadunku oraz umieszczenie na pokładzie okrętu. Przeniesienie praw własności następuje w momencie, gdy towary przekroczą burtę statku. Do tego momentu całe ryzyko związane ze stratą spoczywa na eksporterze, który w związku z tym musi wykupić ubezpieczenie za lądowy odcinek transportu.
