Na równiku i w jego pobliżu intensywność promieniowania słonecznego jest największa . Powietrze nagrzewa się od podłoża i unosi do góry. Tworzy się pas niskiegociśnienia. Jest o jeden z elementów komórki Hadleya. Wznoszące się powietrze jest zastępowane przez powietrze napływające z północy i południa (wiatry pasatowe). Kiedy wiatry pasatowe spotykają się w rejonie równika tworzy się powierzchniowa konwergencja, w wyniku której powietrze unosi siędo góry. Strefa ta nosi nazwę Zwrotnikowej Strefy Zbieżności -Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ.) |
