Przydałby się kontekst.

Charge = rapid and agressive movement towards the enemy, a więc albo wróg zajmował miasto/wieś/ojczyznę, albo z tamtej strony atakował odległe wojsko, albo też po prostu nastąpił metaforyczny zryw i popędzili do domu po zakończonej walce.
