Social Sciences - History
English term or phrase: yoke saddle
Szukam fachowego terminu na to angielskie określenie. Propozycja - kleszczyny? Nie jest to chomąto, które jest historycznie późniejszym wynalazkiem.

Two yoke saddles were fixed to the yoke with leather thongs. The yoke saddles, which rested on the horse’s neck and probably against its shoulders were apparently made of bronze and wood and probably padded to protect the horse’s spine and shoulders (Lu 1993; Bowuguan 1998; Barbieri-Low 2000). In the past it was reckoned that the strap fastening the lower ends of the yoke saddle would have exerted too much pressure on the windpipe to allow for efficient traction. However, by 1968 Littauer had recognised that with the yoke saddle seated in front of the withers, the pressure points of its arms probably would have been on the horses shoulders, aiding in forward motion much the way a modern neck collar does (Littauer 2002). If that was the case, the pressure on the trachea should not have been severe.
