Kitchen Porter

In the hectic atmosphere of a busy kitchen, it is the job of the kitchen porter to make sure the chefs can do their job efficiently and well. That means they could be asked to do a range of tasks, including keeping everything clean, making sure the equipment and utensils are where they should be

Their tasks might include:

Meeting suppliers and helping them unload deliveries of ingredients
Keeping the storerooms well-organised
Keeping equipment, fridges, ovens, work surfaces and floors clean and hygienic
Washing up or stacking the dishwasher.
A kitchen porter is required whenever the kitchen is cooking. That means they could be working evenings, nights or days. There are also part-time, casual and seasonal jobs.

You will be on your feet for most of the time, often in the hot, steamy and noisy atmosphere of the kitchen.

As a kitchen porter you need to be:

Full of stamina and enthusiasm
happy to turn their hand to whatever is asked of them
able to work quickly and efficiently.
