When they return, Mary Ann, Maya, and Delia start putting dinner on the table while we talk to Jim. He is a rare combination: a syndicated auto columnist and an ecologist. He edits E, a bi-monthly magazine on environmental issues, and has put his interests together by writing Forward Drive, a book on “clean” cars, and Breaking Gridlock, on environmentally friendly transportation. He also edited Feeling the Heat, on global warming, and at the time of our visit was editing a fourth book, Green Living, a guide to living lightly on the earth.
