The project is aimed at modifying the method of feeding alumina into pots in order to reduce as much as possible gas emissions into the atmosphere. The solution consists of a system of alumina injectors with point feeders and hoppers attached on the two opposite ends of the pot and a high-performance device for burners. To maximize gas collection, the collector skirt has been improved.

Furnaces for these services are physically different from steel-making furnaces and may operate on a continuous, rather than batch, basis. Continuous process furnaces may also use paste-type (Soderberg) electrodes to prevent interruptions due to electrode changes.
