bearing - A small polyethylene bearing that engages a point on the tension handle, once the Electronic Alignment Indicator has indicated that alignment is attained.
Insight Knee Positioning and Alignment System - The Insight Knee Positioning and Alignment System is an extramedullary system that enables the surgeon to identify the line between the center of the femoral condyles and the center of the femoral head. This line is considered the line of axis for correct alignment. The system is based on suspending the distal end of the femur off of the surgery table and applying tension to the distal end of the femur. This tension will result in an indication of the load axis. The Electronic Alignment indicator indicate when the axis is aligned and there are no outside forces affecting it. The bearing functions as a bearing between the tension handle and the post that identified the center of the condyles. Once alignment is indicated via the Electronic Alignment Indicator, the tension handle is turned and drives a point into the bearing to hold the axis in place. The first distal cut is made referencing this axis.
