Hip flexion similarly gives rise to a complaint of back pain at ninety degrees whereas hips will flex upwards to one hundred and thirty five degrees or contact of the knee onto the abdominal wall. There are no abnormal neurological signs in the lower limbs such as loss of muscle power or loss of sensation. All the deep tendon jerks appear to be intact and the plantar responses are downgoing. |

Test the plantar response by scraping an object across the sole of the foot beginning from the heel, moving forward toward the small toe, and then arcing medially toward the big toe. The normal response is downward contraction of the toes. The abnormal response, called Babinski's sign, is characterized by an upgoing big toe and fanning outward of the other toes. |
