Explanation:
"foxed shirts" ... perhaps they are poetically referring to those cotton, tailored, long-sleeved shirts that had one tiny little fox embroidered on the front?

The only other explanation I can think of is "foxed" in a negative sense, meaning with brown spots on it from a fungus infestation, like old pictures get.
