Eram aquelas colocadas nos braços de contadores e caixas de banco para manter as mangas da camisa puxadas para cima. This was EXACTLY what i wanted, and I knew it as soon as I saw it! The reason is in fact that I was trying to find a logical trans for garter snakes, and the French in fact uses 'jarretíère' (or something like that), so I think this is the right - and consistent - approach to its translation.

Aqui no Brasil nós chamamos de ligas mesmo, apesar de serem ligas usadas por homens para segurar suas meias. Em tempo, será que ainda usam esse tipo de coisa?
