El término slickline se refiere la la tecnología de alambre utilizada por operadores de pozos de gas y petróleo para bajar equipamento dentro del pozo a los propósitos de una intervención en el mismo, comúnmente denominada well intervention. Se utiliza para ello un alambre de metal, comúnmente de entre 0,092 y 0,125 pulgadas de diámetro. En casos en los que se requiera contacto eléctrico con la superficie, se utiliza un cable trenzado que puede contener uno o más conductores aislados los que proveen comunicación entre la herramienta y la superficie (telemetría).
