Com a queda vertiginosa dos preços de hardware de computador, praticamente tudo passa a ter algum dispositivo computadorizado acoplado.
No seu caso, está me parecendo que a plotadora tem uma memória ou algum dispositivo em que o arquivo é armazenado durante a impressão. Isso torna o trabalho de impressão muito mais rápido.

Olá Claudia, não tenho certezas sem o contexto adequado, mas como já trabalhei com plotters, acho que pode ser "reter ficheiro". Por exemplo, a plotter tem vários ficheiros em memória para impressão, entretanto acaba o papel, podemos "reter" os ficheiros para proceder à impressão depois de voltarmos a colocar papel. Esta é apenas uma sugestão. Espero que ajude.
