I would like to clarify a point here that almost everyone is pointing out. When I made my comment, perhaps I shouldn't have because it's being missinterpeted. I DO NOT beleive in physical or torturing punishments, my goodness no, never! However in a school system such as Portugal's when the school and teacher's hands are tied, and are unable to 'punish' a student of repeatedly wrong doing; when the student tells it to their faces 'O que é que vais fazer? Telefonar aos meus pais? Então vai! Eles não vão fazer nada!' Or they suspend the kid for 2 to 3 days so when he comes back he can retaliate more against the kid he already bet up and told on him, and again the school or teachers can do nothing about it, or a new 'rad' now is beet up the school teacher, and the student gets 3 to 5 days suspension! These time-out rooms perhaps should not exist because of some adults abusing their power.
Please don't think I'm for the abuse some of the collegues found on the internet, but when the time-out-room is used appropriatly it is a very useful tool. In the States when I went to school there, quite a few years ago, we had detention! Or in Elementary School we were sent to the |
