Geography | | English term or phrase: costal shelf | Can some one tell me how to say this in PT-PT?
There isn't really any context because this appears in a poem (of all places!).
But, just for the record, the line is, "It deepen like a costal shelf"

The sentence is: "It deepens like a coastal shelf".
And, just to clarify the meaning (after seeing Ricardo's answer), a coastal shelf is a projecting bit of land over the sea. Over the years the sea has eroded the cliffs and that is what causes the shelf-like bit of land (or rock or even ice) above. "deepens" means "aprofunda-se", becomes bigger like the coastal shelf that the sea constantly makes more pronounced.
