English to Portuguese translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Law (general) / Movies | | English term or phrase: acquitted | | In an American movies, a woman hires a detective to find out who killed her father. She says: "I´ve used my influence at the D.A.´s office, but it´s definitely on their back burner now that the Grand Jury acquitted." I´ve translated this large sentence, because of the subtitles limitation, into two subtitles, as: "Usei minha influência na Promotoria Pública, mas eles consideram que o Júri absolveu". The problem is that the case is unsolved, I think the Grand Jury abandoned the case. Her father´s assets are frozen, and she wants to gain acess to them. Any suggestion of how to translate "acquitted" here? As "abandonou o caso", for instance? Thanks in advance. |

to acquitt means to formally (find a verdict of \"not guilty) absolver, and not to abandon - as in not reaching a verdict. |
