Tenho que traduzir "non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug".
Até aqui tudo bem - fármaco antiinflamatório não-esteroidal.

O problema é a sigla NSAID - das iniciais em inglês. Toda a gente a usa pelo mundo inteiro e sabem o que é.
Para sermos correctos devíamos utilizar a sigal em português FAINE (quem conhece isto???).

Que sugerem? traduzo a sigla?

Asker: Obrigada Liz e a todos os outros. Mas tenho que usar FAINE ou "Fármaco AINE". Quanto ao "não esteróide", gramaticalmente parece-me ser mais correcto - "não-esteróide" com hífen, com preposição "e" entre antiinflamatório e anti-esteróide. Ou então "não-esteroidal" sem preposição. Desculpem, mas são dúvidas de gramática. Que acham?

Nas traduções que tenho feito de patentes de invenção de produtos farmacêuticos, optei por utilizar a fórmula seguinte:

abreviatura em português (em inglês "abreviatura em inglês"),

precisamente pelas razões evocadas!

No entanto, há quem prefira deixar apenas a sigla em inglês, por razões de entendimento global.

Asker: Obrigada pelo bom senso. Talvez seja a forma mais prática se a sigla em inglês for descrita a 1ª vez que ela surge no texto e não estiver descrita antes. Não é o caso, mas vou saber se aceitam essa forma para situações futuras.

Também em Portugal se sabe e se usa com frequência NSAID. De qualquer forma se pretender utilizar a sigla em português é AINE. Tal como refere a Liz é anti-inflamatório não esteróide (não é esteroidal)
