Brief Description

Bender resembles pliers in shape and has a bending action created by the movement of a plunger against the bar being adjusted, which is then forced into an opposing cavity.

History of Object

Bender came from the Australian College of Dentistry in 1963. The instrument was recovered from a box of scrap. The fixed jaw was cracked and distorted and was unusable. It was found to be made of a non ferrous alloy, quite unsuitable for the original purpose. For demonstration and display purposes only it was repaired by silver brazing and used on aluminum (soft). It was used from 1940 onwards.
