| English term or phrase: wooden stand | | A Maltese cross tube consists of an evacuated conical shaped pyrex glass tube, which is fixed on a wooden stand. At one end of the tube, a cathode in the form of a circular plate is located. The anode is placed in a cylindrical rod like structure. Both the anode and the cathode are made of a transition metal such as copper. Next to the anode, a metal Maltese cross is placed vertically near the wider end of the conical tube. The end of the tube is coated with a fluorescent material called phosphor. The cathode is connected to a negative terminal and the anode to a positive terminal of a high voltage power supply. |
