English to Portuguese translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Poetry & Literature / criticism
English term or phrase:"settle in place"
The text is about music, but that part is very metaphoric, so I´ll put the whole sentence:
"In the postmodern age we're all just cogs in the machine. The machine will crush us under its weight, unless.... Unless we prevent it from settling in place, keep it moving, unable to consolidate."
In this case, does "to settle in place" mean to "get stabilized"?
In Portuguese: "a menos que a impeçamos de tomar conta" or "a menos que a impeçamos de se estabilizar"?
