English to Portuguese translations [PRO] Science (general) | | English term or phrase: breaking of the blind | In their review of the efficacy of antidepressants, Kirsch, et al. (see previous footnote), found that 82 percent of drug effects can be accounted by placebo effects. In other words, only 18 percent of the drug response can be traced to the pharmacological effects of the medication. The authors argue that, moreover, these 18 percent could also be due to the breaking of the blind before the end of the study, as people are cued by side effects that they are probably in the active treatment condition and not in the control condition.
