Suflul exploziei urmeaza imediat procesului exploziv, este un efect al exploziei in sine, si daca apare intr-o instalatie, nu trebuie sa afecteze elementele din instalatie, filtre, supape etc., pentru a nu face pagube si nici accidente.

In timpul exploziei apar temperaturi si presiuni extrem de mari in timpi de miimi de secunde, aerul inconjurator se dilata cu viteze foarte mari creind unde de soc prin aer, care se propaga cu viteze supersonice, acesta fiind suflul exploziei.

Într-un recipient se produce o explozie. Dacă s-au luat măsuri de explosion venting, recipientul rămâne întreg. Se referă (aşa cum spune contextul) la flame, pressure, noise and fire, nu doar la suflu.
