De fapt, aşa cum reiese şi din definiţiile de mai jos, "charge card" nu este un sinonim perfect al lui "credit card". Totuşi, caracteristicile sale principale sunt cele ale unui card de credit şi, în lipsa unui termen mai precis, de obicei este redat ca atare. O alternativă propusă într-un curs de la ASE ar fi "card de cheltuieli" (http://www.biblioteca.ase.ro/downres.php?tc=3130). Dacă e să facem un calc după "carte de paiement" propus de Termium i-am putea spune şi "card de plată".
