In card games, a meld is a set of matching cards, typically three or more, that earn a player points and/or allow him to deplete his hand. Melds typically come in sequences of ascending cards belonging to the same suit (8♠ 9♠ 10♠) or groups of cards of identical rank (8♠ 8♣ 8♥).

Melding is typical in games of the Rummy family, such as Canasta and Gin. Melds are also made in some trick-taking games, such as Pinochle and Bezique.

If a player has three cards of the same suit in a sequence (called a sequence or a run), they may meld by laying these cards, face up, in front of them. If they have at least three cards of the same value, they may meld a group (also called a set or a book). Melding is optional. A player may choose, for reasons of strategy, not to meld on a particular turn. The most important reason is to be able to declare "Rummy" later in the game!

Intr-adevar, in romana se cheama etalare:
Obiectivul jocului este de a scapa de toate piesele de pe tabla prin etalarea (coborarea) lor pe masa in suite si formatii. O alta modalitate de a castiga este de a inchide pe tabla (Joc Simplu pe Tabla, Mozaic, Bicolor sau Monocolor).

Joly se poate lipi pe parcursul jocului la oricare dintre formatiile etalate de jucatorul care il lipeste. Joly nu se poate lipi la ceilalti jucatori.
Daca joly este etalat de unul din jucatori intr-o terta alaturi de 2 carti, atunci pentru folosirea lui trebuie sa se lipeasca amandoua piesele de aceeasi valoare cu cele deja etalate dar de culori diferite de acestea.
Se poate lipi o piesa la o terta care contine un joly si 2 carti, dar joly nu poate fi folosit pana nu este lipita si cea de a patra piesa. Jucatorul care lipeste a patra piesa poate folosi joly-ul.
