Boil and bite mouth guards — These come in a pre-formed shape that can be altered by boiling the mouth guard in water, then biting into the warm plastic for a customized fit. They can be bought at many sporting goods stores, and may offer a better fit than stock mouth protectors. Follow the directions carefully to avoid winding up with a poor-fitting mouth guard.

Eu aş avea două variante de răspuns :)
- prima ar fi traducerea termenului:
gutiere de protecţie (obţinute) prin termoformare şi amprentare

"bite" în termeni stomatologici, se referă la procesul de amprentare dentară în ocluzie (mulaj)

- a doua variantă pleacă de la definiţia gutierei din dicţionarul de stomatologie: construcţie protetică confecţionată din acrilat termopolimerizabil, în laboratorul de tehnică dentară şi autopolimerizabil, în cavitatea bucală:
...din explicaţia foarte detaliată pe care ne-ai dat-o, aş zice că este vorba de această gutieră din acrilat autopolimerizabil...

cu celelalte parcă e mai simplu :)
gutiere individuale (custom..) şi universale (stock...)

...sunt câteva referinţe pe net dar nu par "serioase "(articole de ziar)

Dicţionarul este unul pe care l-am găsit în iulie, când am fost la Constanţa (o librărie-anticariat pe b.dul Tomis)
Se numeşte "Esenţial în stomatologie-Termeni uzuali" de Memet Gafar, Andrei Iliescu şi Radu Marinescu, Ed. Didactică şi Pedagogică, Buc, 2003

Am mai cumpărat unul, Mic dicţionar de stomatologie Eng-RO, Prof. Dr. Valeriu Cherlea, Dr. Oana Stroe (Ed. Naţional, 2003) dar e destul de firav ;)..nu găsesc niciodată ceea ce caut :)
