Eu asa as traduce ("Gonflabil" nu merge sigur)
Cred ca suna curios traducerea - doar zmeul este facut sa zboare prin aer ,nu sa se tarasca pe jos - dar eu as incerca asa.

Dacă suntem de acord cu termenul de "parapantă" (deşi, IMHO este greşit) aşa cum se pare că s-a înrădăcinat el în vorbirea "specialiştilor" [http://www.extremwings.ro/] atunci, mergând pe filiera [aerofoil kite -->airfoil -->foil kite] ajungem la -->parafoil. Parafoil a fost tradus (şi se foloseşte) în română "parapantă" (de la paraşută şi pantă).

In al doilea link, dedicat sportului în România, autorul are şi el dificultăţi de traducere, numindu-l fie "zmeu adevărat" fie "kite" (tip C sau tip foil...)

1. Foil Kites:

Sunt kite-uri construite pe baza unor alveole umplute natural cu aer din vant. Sunt asemanatoare parapantelor. Acestea sunt folosite mai mult ca si kite-uri de antrnament, fun si pt. tractiune pe uscat. Nu sunt foarte mult preferate de rideri pe apa deoarece sunt mai greu de ridicat din apa uneori chiar imposibil (atunci cand se intampla sa cada in apa si se desumfla). Insa, avantajul lor este ca sunt mai rezistente.

Kite-urile foil pot fi cu alveole deschise (open cells) si cu alveole inchise (closed cells) acestea din urma putand fi folosite si pe apa.

poate avea orice forma atata vreme cat alveolele cu pricina sunt prezente in structura, imaginile tale sunt destul de diversificate as zice :)

Kitesurfing - zmeul de mare putere, placa de surf, apa si omul

Kite surfing, cunoscut si sub numele de kitesurfing sau kiteboarding, presupune utilizarea unui zmeu foarte puternic care sa traga un surfboard sau un wakeboard - o placa - pe apa. Viteza maxima atinsa pana in prezent de un kitesurf este de 77.4 km/ora, record obtinut de kitesurferul Olaf Marting.

Kitesurferul sta cu picioarele pe placa de surf care este pusa in miscare de catre un zmeu controlabil, pe care acesta il tine cu mainile. Corpul surferului este singura legatura intre placa si zmeu, pe care kitesurferul le controleaza in acelasi timp: piloteaza zmeul prin aer si placa pe apa.

Desi aflat inca la inceput, kitesurfingul creste foarte rapid in popularitate. In 1998, existau mai putin de 30 de kiresurferi in toata lumea. In 2006, numarul kitesurferilor a fost estimat la 150 000 - 200 000.

In ultimul timp, s-au adus o serie de imbunatatiri tehnice zmeului, astfel ca acest sport a devenit mult mai sigur. S-au dezvoltat mai multe stiluri in functie de conditii, de la stilul wake, la wave riding, freestyle, jumping si cruising.

The Radsail 145 is a two line aerofoil kite and the Radsail Pro 3m is a four line aerofoil kite. On a two line kite, the lines just control left and right. On the four line kite, the additional two lines attach to the trailing edge of the kite and act as a brake - so if you get into trouble you can pull the two brake lines together and the kite will deflate and literally fall out of the sky.
