| | M.A, M.Sc., M. Phil.

Germany
The Master of Science (M.Sc.) is an academic degree which is awarded in the natural sciences, mathematics and informatics. Depending on the focus of studies, it can also be awarded in engineering or economics. There is always a total of 5 years of study needed which corresponds to 300 ECTS-Credits. Furthermore, it always requires a scientific thesis. All Master's degrees in Germany are equivalent and qualify for a doctorate program. They are also equivalent to the traditional five-year Diplom and Magister degrees. The degree "Master of Science" is in most cases not followed by a field of study. It can be awarded by university alternatively in the german translation "Magister der Wissenschaften", but one cannot switch between the degree notations at will and must use the form as it was awarded.

A Master of Arts (Latin:Magister Artium) is a postgraduate academic master's degree awarded by universities in a large number of countries. The degree is typically studied for in Fine Art, Humanities, Social Science or Theology and can be either fully-taught, research-based, or a combination of the two. At Oxford, Cambridge and Dublin, however, it is awarded without further examination to those who are entitled to the undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Arts after a certain number of years, and in the ancient universities of Scotland it is awarded as a first degree to undergraduates.

nu cred ca un individ cu M.A. in stiinte sociale ar fi multumit sa declare ca si-a dat masteratul in arta
